Visit by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Charkri Sirindhorn of The Kingdom of Thailand
On the bright sunny morning of 23rd April 2007, at 9.00 am Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Charkri Sirindhorn visited the booth of Telesensory at The International Convention for Rehabilitation Engineering & Assistive Technology, organized by i-CREATE of Singapore. HRH Princess Maha Charkri Sirindhorn runs several philanthropic organizations and foundations. She is the Executive Vice President of the Thai Red Cross Society since 1077; Executive Chairman of the Chaipattana Foundation (in charge of His Majesty’s development and environmental preservation projects), Ananda Mahidol Foundation (to promote higher education); the King Rama II Foundation (to conserve and promote Thai Culture); President of the Sai Jai Thai Foundation (to support disabled veterans), Prince Mahidol Award Foundation (to award prizes annually to members of the international community for outstanding performances in the fields of medicine and public health); and Adviser of the Committee of Thai Junior Encyclopedia Project by Royal Command of H.M. the King. In addition, she represents Their Majesties in various royal functions and presides over ceremonies as well as other social and charity functions throughout the year. She has also concentrated her effort on helping the handicapped, especially in using information technology to develop independent living and learning skills.
HRH Princess Maha Charkri Sirindhorn was impressed by the Telesensory equipment that assist visually impaired people to be able to read. Several of her accompanying staff were tasked to take notes and continue to establish communication link between training centers in Thailand with Insiphil, pledging to provide better equipment to assist the visually impaired (both children and adults) to continue learning.
Indeed, Insiphil has established a distribution networks in Thailand, Malaysia, The Philippines and Indonesia in promoting low vision equipment. Insiphil has recently raised its profile in the Asean countries, involving activities ranging from exhibitions to charity and training the less fortunate folks, including the impairment of sight, hearing and mobility. While conducting business, the management of Insiphil has been actively participating in charity activities with the objective to create awareness of technology and hardware to assist the handicapped.
In the same event, the Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, Mr. Vivian Balakrishnan was also invited as one of the plenary speakers for this international convention. Mr. Vivian Balakrishnan studied Medicine at the National University of Singapore. He pursued post-graduate specialist training in Ophthalmology and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeon of Edinburg in 1991. Between 1993 and 1995, he worked at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. Upon his return to Singapore, he was appointed Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Singapore National Eye Center where he sub-specialized in Pediatrics Ophthalmology. In January 1999, he assumed the post of Medical Director of the Singapore National Eye Center. Subsequently, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Singapore General Hospital from June 2000 till December 2001.
Mr. Vivian Balakrishnan was glad to know Insiphil being a Singapore based company is exploring into low vision equipment technology in helping to address part of the Aging problems experienced in Singapore and other parts of the world. Moving forward, more collaborations with the Government agencies in developing new low vision equipment with edging technologies are expected. A new revolution is required in this field to cater for varied needs of the aging population encountering sight problems.
