Eye On Innovation
An article related to Telesensory’s role in the business of low vision products and the impact that we have had on the low vision community.
Telesensory has been the leader in innovation for over 35 years.
Those who were fortunate enough to have been involved during the early days of Telesensory’s Optacon product, experienced something so special with the involvement of having the first product that enabled the blind to read the printed page.
Telesensory’s VersaBraille, a Braille laptop computer, shortly followed this. This was prior to ANY mainstream laptop in the market place.
Telesensory’s SpeechPlus Calculator soon followed, the first speech product on the market (BEFORE Panasonic, Sharp and the like entered the speech market).
Telesensory’s VertPlus, a screenreader, appeared next, enabling many hundreds of totally blind individuals to work with computers, on par with their sighted peers. Holiday Inn and TWA, among others, set up their reservation desks to accommodate totally blind workers, using Telesensory’s Speech and Braille products.
In the low vision field, the mid 80's brought Telesensory’s Vantage CCTV, very much the State of The Art, along with Telesensory’s Vista Product, the breakthrough for low vision working population as it indeed put thousands of low vision individuals to work in the mainstream business world.
With Macular Degeneration becoming so prevalent with people living longer, a decade ago Telesensory announced the Aladdin Family Of Products, the first product line engineered solely with seniors in mind. The Aladdin Family has expanded and matured, becoming the most successful of its kind over the past decade and still going strong.
What was missing to better complete the lives of the low vision community, were stand-alone portable electronic visual aides. Telesensory once again filled the void by announcing two new products: the Olympia Standalone Portable and the PICO Handheld Electronic Video Magnifier. These two products, both very successful, have now given the low vision community the ability to function more completely and freely...to move about...to travel...to go from classroom to classroom...to read the ingredients on supermarket products...to read menu’s and sign their credit card receipts. In short, to be much more independent and potentially have a more satisfying life.
And, we are not standing on our laurels. With every new technological advance Telesensory continues to maximize each new technology to the fullest for those with low vision. With the new technology of Flat Panel Viewing, Telesensory seized the opportunity to develop and bring to market its new Flat Panel Video Magnifier: the APEX 17" and APEX 20". These units offer state-of-the-art capabilities and maximize the benefits associated with Flat Panel viewing.
We stand alone in Low Vision history as innovators. There is much more than what I’ve stated above but Telesensory’s enormous impact can be seen with these. All of us who were there from the beginning or came aboard in the middle or are newly involved with Telesensory have a deep sense of what Telesensory has accomplished.
There is NO other company in the field that can claim proximity to the apex where we have arrived. Let’s always keep our "eye on innovation"..how it represents who and what we are and how we strive together to attain even more. We take pride in that.
